What is a Parenting Time Coordinator?

PARENTING TIME COORDINATION is meant to help, not punish. A Parenting Time Coordinator is a neutral, court-appointed professional focused on helping parents make court orders work in everyday life. The PTC is not a therapist, attorney, custody evaluator, or judge.

The PTC does not replace the Judge or change custody.

Why do Courts Use Parenting Coordinators?

Indiana courts use parenting coordination when conflict between parents makes it difficult to follow parenting time orders or communicate effectively.

How does the Parenting Coordinator Help, and what issues dot PTC's generally address?

  • The PTC helps parents communicate, resolve disagreements peacefully, clarify court orders, and keep children out of adult conflict.
  • Scheduling, holidays, transportation, routines, discipline, childcare, extracurricular activities, and communication guidelines.
  • If parents cannot agree, the PTC may make recommendations and, in some cases, binding recommendations as allowed by court order. Parents have seven days to object to the Court.
  • The PTC cannot change custody, make sweeping changes to parenting time, decide financial matters, or act as a judge.
